Dr. Faryal Ali Khamis
Head of Internal Medicine Subspecialities
She is a Senior Consultant and Head of Internal Medicine Subspecialities and
Deputy of Directorate of Internal Medicine at the Royal Hospital in Muscat,
Oman, where she Chairs both the Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee and
the Infection Prevention and Control Committee. She is a member of a number
of National Committees and task forces in the Ministry of Health, Oman.
She completed her medical school training with honors at the Sultan Qaboos
University in Oman in 1993. Following her completion of a residency program in
Internal Medicine at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN, USA in 1999,
she completed two fellowships programs both in Infectious Diseases and in
Medical Microbiology at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, North Carolina.
She has authored several publications in scientific journals and has received several
research awards including the National Research Award in 2021. She is editor in a
number of scientific journals such as Oman Medical Journal. Her main research
interests include respiratory viral infections, infections in immunocompromised
patients, including those with HIV, antimicrobial Stewardship and SARS-CoV-2.
